Should I Americanise?

Over the years I have had complaints from American readers about my use of UK English. In Britain we see so much US English that we seem to be able to automatically translate it. It would seem that the same is not true across the Atlantic. I've been toying with the idea of Americanising (Americanizing) my language, but the problem is how to do that without alienating my British readers.

Now it is all change because yesterday I received this:

"Love your writing style. Being from states it makes me feel I am in england with your language use. I just love it."

It made me think. Isn't that what we writers are supposed to do? we take people to different places or new imaginary worlds. Now I'm confused Should I try to appease those who don't like translating or should I stick to my roots?

What do you think?
